I. Born on the 3rd of July 1943, at Vişani, Iaşi (Iassy), Romania.

II. Graduate of the „Al. I. Cuza” University of Iassy, Faculty of History-promotion 1968, as the top of the series.  Doctor in History with the thesis Aşezările paleolitice de la Mitoc (Mitoc Paleolithic Settlements), at the same university, scientific coordinator Prof. dr. doc. M. Petrescu - Dâmboviţa (1980).

III. Probationer researcher and then scientific researcher III, II and I (senior researcher) since 1968 until present, at the Institute of History and Archaeology „A. D. Xenopol” Iaşi (since 1990 at the Institute of Archaeology Iaşi); Director of the Moldova National Museum Complex - Iaşi (1997-2000); university associated professor at the History School, „Al. I. Cuza” University, Iaşi; university professor at the History-Geography, “M. Kogălniceanu” University Iaşi; doctorate coordinator (since 2002), at the Institute of Archaeology, Iaşi, in the field of Prehistoric archaeology; Prehistoric art and religion; member in more editing collectives of periodicals, Romanian or foreign (Belgium, Hungary). Responsible editor of the publication Cercetări istorice, S.N., tom. XVII/1 and XVII/2; member in the editing committee of the Arheologia Moldovei periodical, starting with the XI/1987 issue, founder of the Bibliotheca Archaeologica Iassiensis Series (editor of the I-XIV issues), expert of the Ministry of Culture and Cults for patrimony goods and archaeological researches, project director or member in more than one internal or external research projects. 

IV. The modernization of the Paleolithic researches in Romania, the realization of a new geo-chronological scheme of the Paleolithic in Romania in European context, the access of the specialists to the archaeological and historical realities from Romania. Through the Bibliotheca Archaeologica Iassiensis, who is now at the XIV number, the archaeologists have access to the most important sentences of prehistory and protohistory from Romanian territory into an European context. Besides the main specialization, the archaeology of the Upper Paleolithic on the territory of Romania, he is interested in the prehistoric art and religion, trying to discover the aspects of spirituality of the human community through knowing the elements of individual and collective sacred in prehistory.

V.  Collaboration inside the international INTAS Project of the European Union, with specialists from France, Belgium, Ukraine, Republic of Moldavia; collaboration to the Romanian - French project Le Paléolithique supérieur ancien autours des Carpates; collaboration to the project The beginning of the European Paleolithic Superior. The study  of the human behavior in the preparation and of  the artifacts in the sites from Mitoc: Malu Galben and Valea Izvorului, with the Univ. McGill, Montréal, Canada; director of the research project Religie şi societate în Europa preistorică, cu privire specială la spaţiul carpatic.

VI. Participant to numerous international scientific reunions: Nice, Bordeaux, Cracovia, Nitra, Mexico, London, Mainz, Brno, Montignac, Treignes, Bratislava, Miskolc, Ravello, Trento, Liège, Carcassonne, Leiden, Forli.

VII. Member in the VIIIth Comission – The Problems of the Upper Paleolithic of the International Union of Pre- and Protohistorical Sciences; member in the Permanent Council of the International Union of Pre- and Protohistorical Sciences.
