Short biography

Sever Petru Boțan is a Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy, Iași Branch, where he has been active since 2014. His research focuses on Roman and Hellenistic archaeology, with particular emphasis on ancient glass vessels, their production, distribution, and economic significance. He obtained his PhD in History from the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, with a dissertation on Hellenistic and Roman glass vessels in the region between the Carpathians and the Prut (2nd century BC – 2nd century AD), under the supervision of Prof. Lucrețiu-Ion Bîrliba. His work combines archaeological research with the study of material culture, especially glass artefacts, in order to better understand trade networks, economic dynamics, and cultural interactions in the Roman period. He has participated in several national research projects and international research stages, including a scholarship at the Romanian Institute for Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice, where he conducted specialised research on ancient glass.
