The Library of the Institute of Archaeology, part of the network of libraries of the Romanian Academy, Iași Branch (ARFI Library), and coordinated by Dr. Mihaela Cazacu-Daviescu, houses a collection of over 31,000 volumes, including 16,195 specialist journals. This extensive collection reflects a long-standing commitment to supporting advanced research in archaeology and related disciplines. Its holdings cover a wide chronological and thematic range, from prehistory to the medieval period, as well as interdisciplinary fields such as archaeometry, paleoenvironmental studies, and cultural heritage management.
The Library maintains an extensive network of publication exchange agreements with 169 specialized institutes and museums across 29 European countries, as well as institutions on other continents. These collaborations play a crucial role in the continuous enrichment and diversification of the collection, facilitating access to international scholarship and fostering academic exchange.
On average, the Library receives over 300 bibliographic units annually, including books and academic journals, which are systematically integrated into the collection. In parallel with the expansion of its holdings, the Library has undertaken a gradual process of modernization. Since 2006, efforts have been made to convert the traditional card catalogue into electronic format, improving accessibility, searchability, and overall collection management. This ongoing transition reflects the Library’s commitment to aligning its services with contemporary research needs and digital standards.
