Iași – Regional Emergency Hospital

The preventive archaeological investigation at the Iași – Regional Emergency Hospital (S.R.U.) site was carried out in the autumn of 2024. On this occasion, more than 30 archaeological features specific to the transitional period from the Eneolithic to the Bronze Age (the Horodiștea–Erbiceni culture) were identified, including domestic pits, pits with ritual deposits, fire installations, and inhumation burials forming part of a necropolis.
The research has provided new data regarding the funerary rites and rituals of these communities, revealing a remarkable complexity resulting from the blending of older Eneolithic traditions with eastern elements originating from the North Pontic steppes. It is noteworthy that this represents the largest concentration of funerary features documented to date within the distribution area of this culture.
