Short biography
Dr. George Bodi is an established researcher specializing in prehistoric archaeology, with a particular focus on the Cucuteni-Trypolie civilization. Holding a research position at the Romanian Academy – Iași Branch, Institute of Archaeology since 2007, he has played an important role in advancing archaeological methodologies and interpretations. From 2022 to 2025, he has taken on the role of Visiting Associate Professor at the Faculty of History, “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași.
Dr. Bodi’s research has significantly contributed to the scientific understanding of prehistoric communities, with a strong emphasis on the structural and compositional analysis of Cucuteni pottery. His interdisciplinary approach has led to the publication of multiple articles focused on the characterization of the raw materials and transformative processes underlying Cucutenian pottery production. His role in these undertakings has been crucial in providing archaeological expertise, directing research inquiries, and contextualizing the results within an anthropological framework.
Beyond ceramic analysis, Dr. Bodi has led multiple research initiatives. Notably, he was the Principal Investigator for two major research grants financed by UEFISCDI, and he has been an invited researcher and collaborator in prestigious projects such as the European Landscape Learning Initiative (TERRANOVA), and the Integrated Model for Non-Destructive Archaeological Investigations, among others. His academic reputation is further demonstrated by his invited talks at institutions such as the Oxford Institute of Archaeology, the German Archaeological Institute (Frankfurt and Berlin), and major universities in Romania. His commitment to academic excellence has also been recognized with awards from the Romanian Research Council (UEFISCDI).
In addition to his research, Dr. Bodi plays an active role in academic publishing. He is a member of the editorial board for Arheologia Moldovei and serves on the advisory committee for Hiperboreea, both esteemed journals in the field of archaeology and history.
Furthermore, he has been instrumental in fostering interdisciplinary dialogue through his contribution to the creation of The Anthrozoology Symposium, an annual event that has grown to international prominence since its inception in 2018. As a standing member of the organizing committee and co-editor of the resulting publications, he has helped shape scholarly discussions on human-animal relationships in prehistoric contexts.
