Biography

Cătălin Hriban is a Scientific Researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy, Iași Branch, where he has been active since 2006. He obtained his PhD in History from “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, with a dissertation focusing on the historical topography of the medieval town of Iași (14th–17th centuries), under the supervision of Prof. Victor Spinei. His research focuses on medieval archaeology, with particular emphasis on historical topography, the organization of urban space, and the development of towns in medieval and premodern Moldavia. His work adopts an interdisciplinary approach, combining archaeological evidence with historical sources, as well as studies of heraldry and symbolic representations of power. In addition to his research activity, he has an extensive background in museum and editorial work, being involved in the editing of scholarly volumes, exhibition catalogues, and academic publications within the National Museum Complex of Moldova in Iași. He has participated in numerous research projects and international programmes, including a UNESCO project dedicated to the restoration of cultural heritage.
