Short biography

Lucian Munteanu is a Senior Researcher (CS II) at the Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy, Iași Branch, where he has been active since 2005, progressing through all research ranks within the institution. He obtained his PhD in History at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iași, with a dissertation focused on monetary circulation in Roman Dacia (Moneda în așezările Daciei romane), a topic that remains central to his research. His research focuses on ancient and medieval numismatics, with particular emphasis on coin finds from Roman Dacia and the surrounding Barbaricum, as well as on the economic and cultural interactions reflected through monetary circulation. His work combines archaeological context analysis with detailed numismatic study, contributing significantly to the understanding of Roman influence beyond the imperial frontiers. He has been involved in numerous national and international research projects addressing the relations between the Roman world and neighboring populations, including projects on Pontic Greek cities, Romanization processes, and the Barbaricum of the Eastern Carpathian region. He has participated in and organized numerous international conferences and panels (Glasgow, Rome, Warsaw, Istanbul, Frankfurt am Main, among others), actively contributing to the international scholarly discourse in numismatics and archaeology.
