Biography
Lavinia Grumeza is a Researcher at the Institute of Archaeology of the Romanian Academy, Iași Branch, where she has been active since 2018. She completed her BA and MA studies in Archaeology and Classical History at Babeș-Bolyai University (Cluj-Napoca), followed by a PhD in Archaeology at the “1 Decembrie 1918” University of Alba Iulia (2013). She also pursued postdoctoral research at the West University of Timișoara (2014–2015). Her research focuses on the Roman and post-Roman periods in the Barbaricum, with particular emphasis on Sarmatian communities, cultural identities, and interactions with the Roman Empire. She is especially interested in funerary practices, material culture, and the circulation of Roman goods beyond the imperial frontiers. She has been involved in several national and international research projects, including as project director, and has carried out research stages at major institutions such as the Deutsches Archäologisches Institut (Berlin, Frankfurt, Munich), Freie Universität Berlin, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the British School at Athens.
